The expansion of EST as a whole has seen events start to place in areas besides the home base of Albany. It’s been Scranton, PA a couple times. It was Utica last June. However, even with the recent prevalence of WNY talent at EST events, with many of the best of the extended region traveling to other areas for them, I haven’t done anything besides a couple Summer Run nights in the region… that changes now.
The first event of 2022 is a new one, and perhaps it’s long overdue. The WNY Warm-Up, the first one-day EST event operated in Western New York, will be held on the campus of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY on Friday, April 29. This will be a ONE SESSION EVENT, running from approximately 6:30-9 PM. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be capped at/around 80 participants.
Players will receive the opportunity to showcase themselves in various outlets while also getting focused reps through skill development. The competition piece includes an extended stretch of 3v3 play to not only allow participants to get into a rhythm & provide a different look, but also to maximize “in-game reps” for all players. There will also be plenty of traditional 5v5 run, with rosters geared to be competitive for all participants. All athletes will also go through a comprehensive individual skill work session during the event.
EST events have turned into a prime opportunity to gain exposure & visibility to collegiate programs and other valuable outlets on a prospect’s journey, such as scouting services & basketball-specific media outlets. Events typically see college coaches attend by the dozens, and since the return to play after the pandemic shutdown, for every coach in the gym, there’s been another that subscribes to the ‘virtual option’ of event game film. EST aims to provide meaningful exposure in a competitive environment – in order to “showcase”, you need to be able to “show” someone. They have provided that in a major way, and the WNY Warm-Up will be no different!
Event days are some of my favorite days of the year, and I’m really looking forward to the inception of this one. Registration & payment links are at the top of the page, and a registered player list (updated daily, or at least as often as I can get to it) will be posted directly below. Hope to see you at Fisher on April 29!
