After several years of players/families traveling so well from the western half of NY to events wherever I held them, 2022 featured the first EST event in their neck of the woods. That event, the inaugural WNY Warm-Up, was a resounding success and one of my favorite days of the year. Simply put… it was a no-brainer to bring it back.

The 2nd Annual EST WNY Warm-Up will be held on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan University in Rochester, NY on Friday, April 28. This will be a ONE-SESSION EVENT running from approximately 6:30-9 PM. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be capped at approximately 80 participants.

Players will have the opportunity to showcase their abilities in various outlets while also getting focused reps through a dedicated skill development segment. The competition piece includes an extended stretch of 3v3 play to not only allow participants to get into a rhythm & provide a different look, but also to maximize touches and “in-game reps” for all players. There will also be plenty of traditional 5v5 run, with rosters geared to be competitive for all athletes.

Since the inception of Empire State Takeover – the inaugural Summer League in 2015 – EST events have grown into one of the premier opportunities in the Northeast to gain visibility & exposure to collegiate programs and other valuable outlets on a player’s journey, such as evaluators & basketball-specific media outlets. Last year’s WNY Warm-Up, like most EST events, had dozens of coaches across the baseline. All 3v3 & 5v5 play is recorded as well, and for every coach that has walked in the gym over the last couple years, there’s been another on the average tapping into the game film. EST aims to provide meaningful exposure in a competitive environment – in order to ‘showcase’, you need to be able to ‘show’ someone. They have provided that in a major way, and this year’s WNY Warm-Up will be no different!

The inaugural event featured talent for all ‘next levels’, from those receiving attention from the highest end of Division I to others working to get on a few Division III radars, and I anticipate this year to be much of the same. Once the Class of 2023 matriculates, over 400 ‘ESTers’ since its inception less than a decade ago will have moved on to compete at the collegiate level.

Event days are some of my favorite days of year, and I’m really looking forward to this one. Registration & payment links are at the top of the page, and a registered player list (updated daily, or at least as often as I can get to it) will be posted directly below. I hope to see you at Roberts on April 28!
